If surgery offers you the best outcome, you can feel confident in the care you’ll receive. Dr. Roberts is a highly trained, experienced surgeon who uses the latest techniques that are less invasive and easier on you. Dr. Roberts performs both hospital-based and in-office surgical and diagnostic procedures for:

  • Evaluation of Abnormal Pap Smears (LEEP Procedure) Pap smears are brush samples taken from the cervix, the lower part of the uterus which is located at the top of the vagina. The purpose of the test is to check for signs that could indicate an early precancerous change called dysplasia. The cervical cells are placed on a microscope slide for viewing and grading into normal or abnormal categories. They can also be checked for the presence of high-risk human papilloma virus (HR-HPV), the sexually transmitted infection that can lead to dysplasia and cancer. LEEP (loop excision of the cervix) is an in-office procedure, used to cut the area of dysplasia out of the cervix. The cure rate for dysplasia with one loop excision is about 95%.
  • Painful Periods & Abnormal Bleeding – While a number of medical options for treatment are often successful, a number of different procedures have been developed over the last 20 years. Endometrial ablation procedures are designed to help eliminate heavy menstrual bleeding. NovaSure is among the simplest and most effective of all these methods. The procedure is usually done with a light intravenous sedative.

  • Ovarian Cysts – Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a fairly common disorder affecting about 10% of women. Gynecologic treatment of PCOS aims to regulate the periods and reverse the acne and excess hair growth. Joint management with a primary care physician may be needed, especially if any of the related medical issues exist.

  • Endometriosis Treatment – A number of medical treatments are available to control painful periods and preserve fertility. If these are unsuccessful, conservative surgical options can be used such as Laparoscopic surgery.

  • Uterine Fibroids Uterine fibroids (also called myomas or leiomyomata) are common benign tumors that grow from the smooth muscle cells in the wall of the uterus. They can be present singly or even number in the dozens, and can range in size from a grain of sand to eight or more inches in diameter.

  • Chronic Vaginal Conditions – Complaints including vaginal discharge, vaginal itching, burning and vaginalodor are among the most common reasons for a visit to the gynecologist. Although yeast infections are frequently the cause of these symptoms, there are other infections and even noninfectious problems that can be the source. Therefore it is a good idea to be seen at the onset of vaginal symptoms before any medications are used so that an accurate diagnosis can be made. Infrequent or occasional cases of vaginitis are usually treated quickly and successfully.
  • Vaginal and Vulvar Problems – It can be particularly frustrating, however, for a woman who has made multiple office visits over time with no clear diagnosis and no long-term response to treatment. Dr. Roberts has a special interest in helping these patients. It may be necessary to collect samples on two or three occasions for appropriate microscopic examination and cultures. Certainly medical records of previous evaluations are helpful. Once the diagnosis is clear, she can give you the right medication for the current problem and even design a regimen to prevent future symptoms. If a vaginal infection is ruled out and a vulvar skim problem seems likely, she will also help you obtain appropriate treatment.

  • Hysterectomy – If your situation requires it, you’ll be glad to know that Dr. Roberts is an area leader with many types of hysterectomy surgery. From traditional techniques to minimally invasive methods such as laparoscopic and vaginal hsterectomy procedures, Dr. Roberts is skilled in the spectrum of hysterectomy approaches.

No matter what kind of test or procedure you need, Dr. Roberts and her staff are here for you with comfort and support when you need them most.
